People often confuse interior design with interior architecture, and vice versa. While both disciplines share a common aim of creating appealing spaces, interior design focuses on the aesthetics of those spaces, whereas interior architecture focuses on their functionality. An interior architect will consider the building materials used and the structure of a property, as well as any artistic features.
Oliver originally began his career by studying to become an architect. As such, he has an in-depth personal awareness of many of the theories, requirements and practices involved. This makes him uniquely well-placed to consider projects from both a technical and creative perspective. He does, however, partner with fully qualified architects, builders and other construction experts as required on a project-by-project basis.
Over the years, he has developed an enviable book of contacts within the industry and so will be able to recommend professionals who are able to live up to his exacting standards.
Yes. If you have existing working relationships with builders, decorators, or other tradespeople that you trust and are keen to use then we would be happy to collaborate with them.
In order to maintain our own exacting standards, Oliver will meet in-person with contractors before they begin. For ultimate convenience, we are also able to take care of instructing and overseeing all tradespeople working on the project, if required by the client. This allows us to ensure an accurate execution of the designs and to dovetail their services with other contractors on-site.
No, it is not necessary for you to be at the property all day, every day – unless of course you wish to be. Here at Oliver Steer, we strive to alleviate all the usual stress points of an interior architecture project by sourcing and appointing professional, reliable contractors that provide the level of site management our clients require. This may involve architects, contractors and resources in other professions, all of whom are centrally coordinated by Oliver himself.
